Advanced Watercolour Techniques

Join Us - In Tropical North Queensland for this magic Workshop!

@ The Tanks Arts Centre - Cairns Botanical Gardens -

Sunday 21st September 2025 - 10am to 2.30pm

46 Collins Ave, Cairns, QLD, Australia 4870

Join NINA VOLK to dive into the fun, mysterious corners of watercolour where curiosity meets mastery!
While many artists know the standard go-tos: wet-on-wet, glazing, dry brush, there are some nuanced and lesser-known techniques that can take your work to that next, whisperingly brilliant level.

WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS:

ATMOSPHERIC LAYERING WITH TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Learn how to use  temperature contrast in subtle, successive layers to shape mood, environmental qualities and spatial depth, how to build emotional resonance rather then traditional colour theory!

THREADING WATER AND PAINT
Learn how to understand water and how to use it separately from colour  - this usually helps with loose, organic appearance for natural textures, bark, stone, weathered timber, etc.
REVERSE BLOOM
Instead of pushing pigment outward with water, you will learn how to make thick pigment push water out to create ghostly halos and radiant textures, what paints best to use to achieve this and much more.
CONTROLLED CHAOS EDGE
MICRO-DETAILING LIFT and many more

GUIDED DEMONSTRATION:
Participate in a guided practice session where Nina will demonstrate and assist you in applying above techniques to achieve a sense of suggested reality on paper.

PERSONAL FEEDBACK:
Receive individual guidance and feedback from Nina to help you refine your techniques.
